Copper & Ash Studio is the work of Amy Boulant.

Born and raised in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California, Amy grew up by forests, canyons, rivers and wild plant life. Now based in Napa Valley, the natural environment of her childhood still serves to inspire her work. Amy is self taught in the arts of watercolor and pyrography ( the ancient art of writing with fire ) and fuses the two elements in her unique art style. When not creating Amy engages in intense car dance parties with one of her daughters and bounces theories off the other. Other sources of joy for Amy include practicing and teaching Kundalini yoga, collecting vintage denim jackets, talking to houseplants, and staring at the sky for long periods of time.

My work is an attempt to capture the consciousness present in the world around us, as well as honor the part we play in the intricate narrative of life. Here you’ll find vibrant ferns, magpies frozen in flight, schools of fat little pollywogs, and birch trees peering at you from all angles. An observation and reflection of the natural landscape of my life, with a twist.

Not only do I intentionally combine the elements of fire and water through the use of pyrography and watercolors, but I intentionally combine geometric line work with flowing and vibrant washes of paint. For me art is not just based in image but also in the slow and intentional routine of creating a handcrafted piece.

I love creating functional art for cooking. Hand crafted pieces hold a frequency of the time, effort, and intention of the artist. This gets passed on to the user, then infused into the food, then eaten by our loved ones…….and continues to spread.

I hope my kitchen tools serve as a reminder that the greatest pleasure and joy in life is often found in the most simplistic moments, such as sharing a meal with people you love.
